Do not rely on the file name
An SVG image element can hold a raster picture as well as other content.

Raster means a picture built from pixels. Vector artwork uses shapes described in the file. Putting a small pixel picture inside an SVG does not turn those pixels into traced shapes. Treat the extension as a starting clue.
Keep the received file and make a working copy. If it came from someone you do not know, ask the sender to identify its contents. You do not need to upload private artwork to an online checker.
Inspect the artwork objects
- Open a trusted copy in a vector editor you use.
- Select the main symbol and the lettering separately.
- Look at the object list or the editor label for each selection.
- Look for shape nodes, the points you can move to change an outline, or a single picture rectangle.
- Repeat for the small details, not just the largest object.
A mixed file can have a vector border around a pixel picture. Finding one shape does not prove that the whole mark is vector. If the editor cannot show what is inside, ask the creator for that information.
Look inside a text copy when needed
You can open a copy as text without changing it. Search for image and path labels. An image reference is a clue to inspect. A quick search does not check every object or outside dependency.
An SVG path describes a shape outline.

<image ... />
<path ... />Do not delete lines to make the file pass a check. The result could lose part of the logo. Keep questions about missing fonts or linked files for the creator.
Compare two files at the same preview size

We made these two files to show why matching preview sizes can hide different contents. The saved source check found the objects described in the caption. It is not a test of a customer file or a score for vector quality.
Ask for the right next file
| Finding | Useful request |
|---|---|
| All intended artwork is editable shapes | Ask the recipient to confirm the format and any remaining file needs. |
| A small picture sits inside the SVG | Request traced artwork if the job needs shapes. |
| Some parts are shapes and some are pictures | Name the parts that need tracing. |
| Contents are unclear | Ask the creator for a clear object and font summary. |
Compare any traced copy with the approved name, spacing, dots and symbol. A new set of paths can still trace the wrong shape. You are finished when you know what the complete artwork contains and the receiver accepts that kind of file.
