Choose one identity first

A brand board may show several logo ideas, colors and mockups. Decide which identity you mean before drawing a boundary. Record its label or its location on the board.

LogoTidy asks you to choose one complete logo outside mockup views.

Do not take a symbol from one concept and lettering from another unless you intend and approve that design change. File preparation should follow one clear choice.

Prefer a flat complete view

Flat and completeUse this as the first choice.
Flat with palette labels nearbySelect the full logo and leave those labels outside.
Tilted on a bag or cardAsk for a flat original of the same mark.
Tiny icon version onlyAsk for the complete intended identity.

Cropping changes boundaries.

A smaller boundary around a tilted picture does not by itself remove its tilt. Treat that as a reason to ask for a flat source. Do not describe a guessed flat version as the recovered original.

Include all intended logo parts

  1. Find the farthest points of the selected symbol and letters.
  2. Include the tagline when it belongs to the mark.
  3. Keep dots, accents and outline ends inside the selection.
  4. Leave a little room around those parts.
  5. Exclude contact details or board captions unless they are truly part of the approved logo.

Keep the full board as a reference. A crop can make it harder to see which concept was selected. A note such as upper left flat logo can help someone compare the choice without guessing.

Check the selected size and spelling

A large board can contain a small chosen mark. For example, a 2400 pixel board may show that mark only 200 pixels across. This is an invented size example. Inspect the chosen artwork width and the letters themselves.

Use the selected mark, rather than the board size, to check source needs. The screenshot guide explains the selected source rule and what to do when details are missing.

QuestionsAny unreadable or missing detail.

Compare the prepared result with that record. Stop if it silently combines ideas or loses intended parts. The selection is complete when one identity, its full boundary and its exact wording are clear.
